Department for Energy Security and Net Zero

In 2022, energy bills rose considerably, causing challenges for households and businesses. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero supported nearly every household and business in the country though £40 billion of support. This was delivered rapidly, and innovatively through the energy system, in a way that had never been done before.

Warm Scots Welcome Programme

Scottish Government

In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the Scottish Government worked at pace with partners to stand-up the ‘Warm Scots Welcome’, a Scotland-wide humanitarian programme which has welcomed more than 25,000 arrivals – the majority women and children – more per head of population than any other UK nation. Informed by the experiences of those arriving, improvements include dedicated housing fund, volunteer campaign and support to match arrivals with settled accommodation. As a result, guests in temporary welcome accommodation have more than halved with many thousands settling in communities right across Scotland.

Women's EURO 2022 Team

Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)

The Women’s EURO 2022 project team oversaw the tournament from conception, through bidding, planning, delivery and legacy – creating a generational-defining moment in national history, as the Lionesses lifted the trophy. The team went above and beyond, partnering with the Football Association, UK Sport and host towns to deliver a game-changing tournament, overcoming COVID-enforced delay, ensuring those most in need attended matches, and contributing towards the tournament’s lasting legacy. They then built on this achievement by overseeing another ground-breaking event later in 2022 – as the Rugby League World Cup held men’s, women’s and wheelchair tournaments simultaneously for the first time ever.
