Delivering for Citizens Award Shortlist

An Ambitious Civil Service

  Supported by

Aberdeen Jobcentre

Aberdeen Jobcentre

Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)

Aberdeen Jobcentre teams worked together to deliver exceptional outcomes in challenging circumstances in 2022 and 2023. Over 300 people were resettled from Afghanistan into hotels in the city, joined by a further 800 Ukrainians. The site leapt into action, motivated by the urgent need of these claimants, and the will to maintain their previously excellent service to their existing claimants. All job roles were involved, in the initial outreach and information gathering, the new claims requirements, personalised mapping of complex needs and employability plans, liaising with employers, and effective partnership working with the Local Authority, Home Office, Scottish Government and other local agencies.

DCMS Digital Communications Team

Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)

This nomination is for the DCMS Digital Comms Team for its service during Her Majesty The Queen’s funeral, by creating, launching and managing the innovate live Queue Tracker for the queue to view the Lying-in-State. After consulting several large providers who hadn’t yet identified a solution, the team built their own within 48 hours, ready to launch when the Lying-in-State opened days later. This was a hugely successful public service, helping people plan their visit with live data 24/7 that reached 10 million people on YouTube and was broadcast around the world.

Operation Soteria

Home Office

The Home Office, National Police Chiefs Council, Ministry of Justice, Crown Prosecution Service, and College of Policing have nominated the Operation Soteria team across government and beyond for the Delivering for Citizens Award. Soteria brought together a unique cross-discipline team – academics, government and non-governmental officials, policing nationally and frontline – to collaborate for the first time to address an entrenched problem – the criminal justice system response to rape cases. Over two years, they developed new Operating Models for police and prosecutors, working directly with forces to turn around performance and ensure better joint working between police and CPS.
